The Engage in Democracy 2012 Student Journalism Challenge is a non-profit project supported by the Media Arts Institute. We exist to empower our nation’s youth to participate in the democratic process through journalism education, classroom leadership development, and community reporting. By showcasing student perspectives on critical issues for the 2012 presidential election, we hope to inspire adults to become politically active on both a local and national level.
In creating their submissions, we also hope to inspire a sense of civic responsibility in K-12 students.
The project is run by staff , student leaders, and educators from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication, the Media Arts Institute, Baruch College, and the Alliance for Excellent Education.
